Citizens Insurance Awards Scholarships To Eight Local Students Honoring Academic Achievement And Commitment To Community Service
HOWELL, Mich. (June 26, 2008) – Citizens Insurance Company of America today announced that, through its parent’s company’s foundation, The Hanover Insurance Group Foundation, it has awarded eight scholarships to local public high school students and children of employees of Citizens Insurance in Howell, Michigan and in several nearby cities and towns.
The Hanover Insurance Group Foundation granted 36 scholarships nationwide, with the awards totaling more than $45,000.

Local public school scholarship recipients include the following:
- Ashley M. Alexander, Howell High School. Ashley will attend Michigan State University and major in business administration
- MaryKate K. Carter, Pinckney High School. MaryKate will attend Michigan State University and major in comp cultures and politics
- Robert P. Hindy, Fowlerville High School. Robert will attend Huntington University and major in computer engineering
- James M. Leonard, Hartland High School. James will attend University of Michigan and major in physics
- Tengbo Li, Brighton High School. Tengbo will attend Harvard University and major in chemical engineering
- Rachel M. Miceli, Hartland High School. Rachel will attend Cedarville University and major in Spanish and exercise science
Scholarship recipients from The Hanover Insurance Group Employee Program, include the following:
- Carolyn R., Hamilton (employee Mary Hamilton), a high school senior at Byron High School who will attend Saginaw Valley State University and major in English
- Lucas, G., Lindsey (employee Michael Hoffer), a college freshman attending Arizona State University, majoring in English and pre-law
The scholarship program was managed by Scholarship Management Services, a division of Scholarship America, the nation’s leading scholarship program administrator.
