The Hanover Announces New Talent To Northeast Marine Team
WORCESTER, Mass. (September 3, 2008) – The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. (NYSE: THG), a leading super regional property and casualty company, today announced two important appointments within its northeast marine team.
Alan K. Crater, CPCU, AMIM has been appointed vice president, marine, and Elaine A. Bartolini, CPCU, AMIM, has joined the company as assistant regional vice president for inland marine.
“Alan has an outstanding reputation and extensive experience in the marine industry,” said Sophia Phillips, president of The Hanover marine—commercial lines. “I am thrilled to welcome him to this important role and confident that he will help us continue to position our company as a world class marine player.”
Crater, who has served in various leadership roles throughout The Hanover since 2004, will lead the northeast marine team, which includes both the New England and Metro territories. In addition, Crater’s broader responsibilities will include working with The Hanover’s company-wide marine organization on product development and other key initiatives. He will continue to work out of the company’s Somerset, NJ office.
“Alan has spent much of his career leading and building marine organizations at various companies and—for that reason—he is looking forward to getting back to his roots and working directly with our agents, many of whom he knows and others he is eager to meet,” said Dick Lavey, president of the company’s Northeast Region.
Bartolini will assume responsibility for The Hanover’s New England territory, working with the company’s team of experienced marine specialists to deliver customized coverages for agents. She will work out of the company’s headquarters in Worcester, Mass.
Bartolini comes to The Hanover from OneBeacon Insurance, where, as marine master, she was responsible for marketing and underwriting the company’s inland marine products in a four-state region. Prior to that, she served as marine underwriting specialist at Hartford Insurance, with responsibility for marketing and underwriting the company’s inland and ocean marine products in the Massachusetts territory.
“We are very pleased to welcome Elaine to our company and to our inland marine team.” said Lavey. “With her solid background in marine underwriting and marketing, and her extensive knowledge of the New England market, Elaine will be great asset to our agent partners in New England, helping them to deliver customized marine coverage for their customers’ unique or complex insurance needs.”
Bartolini also has served in various roles in marine underwriting and marketing, and as an adjuster, for GRE Insurance Group and Royal Insurance, working in both companies’ New England territory.
